This present project consists in the adaptation of an old warehouse for a Restaurant/Bar. The pre-existent building is a body composed by two distinct constructions: the first and principal, is a big rectangle nave, enclosed by a four-sided covering, settled on a good condition wood structure. Two smaller buildings, linked to the big nave, compose the second construction, which assure the access to the warehouse from the public way. The philosophy of this proposal is to clear the interior of the building, subtracting only the division walls as a way to re-create the splendid and original spatiality of the building. This idea is strongly defended concerning to the programme’s disposal. The project elected only one top of the big nave, condensing the entire programme in a new body with autonomous character but also in dialogue with the pre-existent. Simultaneously it become possible to isolate it acoustically of the exterior, without altering the design of the street-front, integrated on an urban consolidated street of a historic area in Matosinhos. This new element was built with a concrete structure allied to masonry walls, constructed in brick, faced with sandy wall plaster. Above the lighten covering flag of the public sanitary is the meal area, paved with fold pinewood. The entire pavement situated at a lower level, including the sanitary installation and the remaining service areas are paved in polish weaker concrete. The internal face of the exterior box has been covered with a brick wall, so as to optimize the whole acoustic behavior, cover the entire substructure of ventilation and cables, as well as reinforce and qualify the spatial harmony of the warehouse nave. This intervention has the intent to reach the minimal character by constructing less and emphasizing the peculiar qualities of the pre-existent nave. Quantitatively, the project foresees 792 m2 brut total area, 620 m2 at the first level and the remaining 172 m2 at the second level. The principal pre-existing entrance kept the facade design, and the same door establishes the service access and the emergency exit. The public access takes place at the lateral entrance of the pre-existent supplementary building, which presents a small opening studied in the project. Inside we can visualize the cloakroom. The option for this structure as the element that comports the front door allows to keep away the movement and noises allied to the people affluence, from the Dr. José Ventura Street, a small and predominantly housing. This option avoids traffic problems and neighborhood disorders. Soon after, the entire space of the warehouse could be apprehended in a course that leads us to the distinct areas: bars, restaurant and the sanitary. In the contrary, the service circulation is done from the Dr. José Ventura Street. The covering was restored and duly isolated, thermal and acoustically. The substructures such as ventilation conduits, electric cables and discharge tubes of the rainwater are hidden behind the walls placed in the central nave. The extracting air duct is in the upper level of the covering. The interior places are mechanical ventilated. The entrance doors as well as the emergency exits are metallic, anti-fire and anti-panic, opening in the running way. The Restaurant/Bar is provided with a security system against fire, which consists in three fireplugs, fire extinguishers, emergency exits with anti-panic doors, security illumination and signaling visible from every places of the building, according to legal norms of security in vigor.
